Globalization - The Myth, Reality, Alternatives and Solutions

The collection of articles, written by Sarath Fernando The book is based on theoretical as well as practical struggles, in Sri Lanka, against adverse impact of plans of globalization.

Globalization of what?  for whose interest? Is it an essential, unavoidable, phase of world development? Are there positive features that we must accept and utilize? How can a small country, such as Sri Lanka, with a weak economy, face the challenges of Globalization ? Is their no way other than surrendering ourselves to it?  Dialogue and debate on these issues are still unfinished in Sri Lanka.

The book is based on theoretical as well as practical struggles, in Sri Lanka, against adverse impact of plans of globalization. It also makes use of the experiences of the international movements that are emerging against destructive aspects of globalization. The above is a collection of articles written over the last few years.

This is not a complete analysis of globalization. The collection of articles, written by Sarath Fernando, makes an effort to build confidence that even in a small country such as Sri Lanka; it is possible to for people to survive as a nation with dignity that will not surrender to the destructive plans of capitalist globalization. There are some illustrative examples of the direction such a process would take.

We have come to the realization, through the efforts we have made together with many people’s organizations, that there are alternatives and solutions to this destructive process towards a world that is more  friendly to human beings and to nature. Today, the building of such a practical process for a better world has already begun throughout the world.

The collection of articles is published as a contribution towards the discussion and debate that is ongoing, giving a few indications of “the way forward” towards this goal. This is a step to strengthen the people, intellectuals, , the scientists and policy makers in the country.

Movement for Land and Agricultural Reform (MONLAR) would like to cordially invite you to participate in the launching of the book and in the continuing debate on this issue of crucial importance.
